Engine Valve Cover

An engine valve cover, or rocker cover, is a protective component that sits on top of an engine’s cylinder head, covering the valves and valve train components. It helps prevent oil leaks and protects the internal parts from dirt, debris, and other contaminants. In some newer applications, valve covers will also sometimes house the PCV Valve or part of the PCV system to allow engine oil crankcase pressure to be relieved properly.

Engine Valve Cover Failure Symptoms

• Age and Wear: Valve Cover Gaskets harden and crack over time, causing leaks or smells terminating from the engine
• Improper Installation: Uneven torque or poor gasket placement
• Material Fatigue: High engine temperatures can cause plastic or metal covers to warp or crack
• Blocked PCV Valve: Pressure buildup in the crankcase can damage the cover
