Diesel pistons, even in standard cars, are running at surface temperatures close to the melting point of the aluminium material itself, this means coatings such as this are vital especially around the piston bowl rim which is the first area to melt in a high performance application

To aid the removal of heat from the piston and allow the piston to remain at a more consistent tolerance to the cylinder bore
